Trash Me now in itch.io!

Hey, guys! Today was the release of my simple 2D game called Trash Me! It was quite a long process creating this game and it was quite unusual.

A little bit about me

I am a Ukrainian indie developer who actively creates games on various game engines (Mainly Unity). I've known him for quite a long time and managed to make small games (one of them: Lonely Red).

How was the process of creating the game? From idea to realization.

For more than two years I've been developing applications in Python and I became interested in a library called: "Pygame". As I was learning, I had different ideas. Most of them were 2D games, as this is the most common in this library. And I started making very simple projects. From a spaceship that should destroy flying asteroids to a simple clicker. But at one point I wanted to do something more, something interesting. And I got the idea to make a game about a garbage can that collects falling garbage. Banal? At the time, yes. The old version had a very simple interface and very few mechanics. It was boring to play. After thinking about it like that, I decided to switch from Pygame to Unity and improve the game a lot. I added a lot of mechanics, optimized the code, improved the UI and the game already looked better. Also, I created my own music and sounds and implemented it all into the game. It looked playable already and it's time to release. At the same time I tried to spread the word about this game on social networks (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube), but I didn't know what to do with it.

Also, the other day I learned about online gaming. You just convert the game to WebGL and embed the website SDK in it. It sounded like a plan, and you can also get some profit for advertising. I decided to give it a try. A few days passed and I was struggling with implementing the SDK into my game. There were quite a few problems, limitations, and requirements worth following. The interface was also changing, namely its proper display and design. Also, there was an attempt to make "animations" as MP4 files, but it turns out that WebGL does not support this feature, so it was worth abandoning it and working with static images. Of course, it was possible to animate each Sprite, but this is all theory, which was not applied in practice. It was time to send the application... Rejection... An attempt to post the game was on the site: crazygames. The guys, unfortunately, do not provide detailed feedback about the game, so they simply rejected the game. Of course, I can assume that it was rejected for the large amount of advertising (although I tried to minimize its amount). But after checking the other games on this site... I realized that my 2D game will not fit here and it needs a mega update. Also, I tried to implement a different SDK, but, even now with it there are problems (even the documentation, frankly, such a poor).

What is the outcome and will there be further development of the game?

At the moment the game development will be frozen for an indefinite period of time. There were also plans to move the game to 3D version, as well as a second attempt to put the game on online sites, but it's all on paper and it's unknown whether it will come true.  But the game has given me quite a lot of experience and I am grateful for that! The main thing is not to lose heart and keep moving forward. I wish that to every developer! I would also be glad if you play this game and give your feedback (Maybe something to add or improve. Who knows, suddenly the game will get a second wind and still be able to prove itself). Also, follow my social networks: Telegram, Instagram, YouTube, etc. All links will be in the game description of Trash Me!

Thanks for your attention and good luck in development! :)
